What’s In Your EDC??

Recently I did a post about my everyday carry bag and it was nice that I had so many things my bag was about 5 lbs in weight so it got me thinking. #1 This is not a prepper post & #2 What if I just carried what I needed for radio when I am out and made the choices of gear be things that I can smartly use and that would cut down on my items to take with me without hindering my capabilities!  I think we did it and now our bag is 2.5 lbs and we switched to a much smaller bag and we still have some really cool things we can do when out and about!

I Just Wanted A Bag That Made It Easy To Get On Radio – Digital Or Shortwave Really Easy!

Our radio of choice is TidRadio H3 Plus & AnyTone – Here is what we are carrying now!

• TidRadio H3 Plus – 2nd one will be replaced by Anytone AT-D168UV (DMR Satellite Tracking)
• 1 radio mic
• ATS Decoder Pocket in Faraday Bag
• VHF/UHF AL-800 Expandable Antenna / spare rubber duckie antenna/(Green) Aviation Antenna
• 2 mini-Loop antennas for the ATS & 915mhz extra Meshtastic antenna
• Mini Meshtastic Device
• Anker 30-watt power bank
• 1 Phone/laptop stand
• Lenove 7 inch tablet with 248gb SD Card
• Cable bag with 4 port hub / RTLSDR Dongle & GPS dongle /USB Soundcard & Cables
• Digirig TNC for my radio
• 30 TB backup drive

This is a lot less and less weight and smaller bag.  With my phone having unlimited internet and my radio apps that most don’t require the internet and work well with my radio & tablet, the combo is pretty good giving me the ability to decode and transmit (TX once we are licensed on HAM) on several modes, and for those things not on the net like APRS – WinLink email messaging over RF. I also have my Digirig as the TNC working with the radio, not a bad combo.

My TidRadio has a Global Chat feature our group (SWLQSL GLOBAL) (Come Join Us) sort of like DMR & We have SMS Messaging built into the radio that works over RF Radio & it does Air Band really well, pretty amazing when you think about it – Technology has caught up with radio so wow with not a lot of gear you can go out and do some amazing things.  My aim is to keep a small footprint and be able to do lots with our toys when we are out and about.  So my radio – tablet – Digirig cables and my small accessories and we can do almost everything while sitting in the park.

Don’t forget the ability to access repeaters 2 meters and 70 cm repeaters around that are DMR enabled / Echolink / AllStar /IRLP & more, like me and my friends say it’s a great time to be in radio…
